Houthi forces advanced across south-west Yemen on Wednesday, striking Aden airport with an explosive moments before a civilian aircraft from Cairo was scheduled to land, according to reporting from the Guardian.
The Iranian-backed Houthi group fired a missile and an explosive device toward Aden airport, a key international hub controlled by the Saudi-backed Yemeni government. The explosive struck the airport just before the Cairo flight's arrival, forcing the plane to divert to Jeddah instead.
Britain's ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, said the attack endangered thousands of people. The strike prompted a safety review of flights operating from Aden.
The Houthis also appeared to be making slow territorial gains toward the city of Taiz in the same region. Aden serves as the chief international airport for the Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen's years-long civil conflict.
